From vanveghj at msoe.edu Wed Jun 2 02:25:38 2004 From: vanveghj at msoe.edu (vanveghj at msoe.edu) Date: Wed, 2 Jun 2004 02:25:38 -0500 (CDT) Subject: [CESE-sendes] NVIDIA senior design project Message-ID: <3309.68.164.77.61.1086161138.squirrel@www.msoe.edu> all, i am looking for additional senior design members for 2nd and 3rd quarter next year. i currently have a project sponsored by NVIDIA. essentially, we would be revisiting the timing project(NVOTCA) that was done a few years ago. the previous team's reports are on the website. however, here is a little more info from one of the previous team members: When the VBIOS team tests display modes, we are generally only concerned with the boolean correctness of the display mode: either we have the correct mode or not. To make the decision, we display a pattern and visually determine the correctness. If we write a utility to test all available display modes, we still have to be present to determine which modes display correctly. We would prefer to be able to also automate the detection of the display modes. this project will involve both hardware and software design. i am more comfortable with the software aspect, so ideally we would have at least 2 people comfortable with hardware. please email me if you are interested or if you have questions. also, in the event that there is no interest in this specific project, i will be able to get a different project from NVIDIA. so, if you are not interested in this project but may be interested in working on an NVIDIA project, let me know as well. thanks, jim v. However, the original project idea has been discarded. We have a new project from NVIDIA which will be very important for our future GPUs. This project is much more software based. Below is a small description. Please let me know if you are interested in this project(including those who replied to the previous project). The NVIDIA VBIOS team is in need of a simulator to test out the functional sanity of our code as well as allow us to collect data about our code under various test conditions (such as how much stack is used, which functions are called, etc). An Intel x86 assembly simulator capable of handling interrupts to exercise our code. Thanks, jim v. If you are listed as having potential interest in a 3-quarter project but have chosen to pursue a 2-quarter project beginning in winter, please let me know that as well. If your primary advisor is from the ME or EE program, please still notify me of your team members and advisor. I need this information to make sure that your senior design grades are recorded correctly and to ensure that you receive proper recognition in various publications. In general, contact me with any updates or questions regarding senior design. Please make use of this list if you are looking for partners, want to discuss project ideas, etc. I hope that each one of you is having a productive and enjoyable summer. -- Dr. Durant From durant at msoe.edu Tue Aug 31 22:40:56 2004 From: durant at msoe.edu (Eric Durant) Date: Tue, 31 Aug 2004 22:40:56 -0500 (CDT) Subject: [CESE-sendes] Senior Design Updates Message-ID: Dear Rising CE and SE Seniors, Some additional senior design information... *** THREE-QUARTER PROJECTS *** Most groups with 3-quarter projects should sign up for the 400/401/402 sequence. Independent study (499) is no longer being used when adding a quarter to senior design. Each team member should sign up for either the CS or SE version appropriate to major; it is okay for teams with mixed majors to be enrolled in different senior design courses. Three-quarter projects that do not follow this rule are those in which a special course must be taken during the first quarter. These are typically particular projects advised by ME faculty, such as the Formula Car project, where ME-462 is normally taken in the fall. You would then take the 400/401 sequence in your major in winter/spring. (If you have received conflicting information about this, check with me; there may be a few exceptions.) *** SAE AERO PROJECT *** If you are planning to work on the 3-quarter SAE Aero project, please contact both Dr. Barnicki and me in short order. *** REGULAR, TWO-QUARTER PROJECTS *** If you're doing a 2-quarter project in the scheduled winter/spring period, nothing has changed; sign up for 400 in winter and 401 in spring. All the time requests I received due to evening class schedules, etc., have been incorporated. http://people.msoe.edu/~durant/courses/sendes/ An LCD projector will be available. Presentations will last up to 12 minutes. An additional 6 minutes are available for questions and set up. Presentations will be videotaped. Everybody is welcome. Even if you are not taking senior design this quarter, you are encouraged to attend to learn about the projects and, if you are taking senior design starting next quarter, to see the style of presentation that you will be giving in January. -- Dr. Durant From durant at msoe.edu Mon Nov 15 12:36:24 2004 From: durant at msoe.edu (Eric Durant) Date: Mon, 15 Nov 2004 12:36:24 -0600 (CST) Subject: [CESE-sendes] Plexus Funding - Time is running out Message-ID: Dear Senior Design Groups with CE/SE Advisors, We're getting the final materials ready for submission to Plexus for senior design project funding and plan to send them off late this afternoon or early on Tuesday. [I have everything that is needed from these teams.] If you are interested in applying for this project funding (which you should have heard of through your advisor, at the most recent senior design planning meeting, or through various other channels), please let me and Dr. Barnicki know ASAP.
