Good Evening Everyone:
FREE Pizza!!!
We will be having our ASME Elections tomorrow at our bi-weekly meeting!
Please take a look at the positions below, and consider running for a
position! We will take nominations from the floor and elect our new
officers. I have included a brief description for each position below.
President
The president of ASME is responsible for the general operations of our
organization. This includes working with other MSOE organizations and
offices to provide unique insight into Mechanical Engineering for our
members. This position requires significant planning and coordination,
but the rewards of being representative of ASME MSOE can be immense.
Vice President
The vice president position is a crucial part of our organization. This
individual works with the president to coordinate events and represent
MSOE at ASME Milwaukee events. Also, this person coordinates design
competitions to allow our members a chance to join together and overcome
engineering challenges.
Treasurer
The treasurer is responsible for overseeing the finances of ASME. This
individual should be detail oriented, and be able to effectively manage
the checking account. This position includes collecting reimbursement
requests from officers and writing out reimbursement checks. This is a
great way for young members to get involved!
Communications Representative
This position has a great recording responsibility. You need to be able
to record accurately what ASME does during the year. This includes
taking notes at member meetings, officer meetings, and recording tour
dates, times, and facilities. These notes are then to be inserted in the
ASME Contest documents that must be sent out to the contest
representative each month. There are also updates and new events at the
New ASME Contest website. These were not mentioned this year due to the
transition from Ingersoll-Rand Competition to the ASME Competition. When
elected, a binder containing all of this information is presented to
you.
Involvement Coordinator
The involvement coordinator sets up tour and can help with design
competitions. By working with the companies you get to know the
representatives and helps greatly if you plan on applying for a position
there. The position also gives you the opportunity to advance your
interpersonal skills which are crucial when interviewing for internships
and full time positions. Over this past year I've setup multiple tours
with the help of MSOE faculty and by contacting companies recommended by
ASME members, as well as setting up the CO2 drag race event with Nick. I
recommend this position to anyone who would like to be an officer in
ASME but does not want to be in one of the administrative roles.
Web Maestro
The ASME Web Maestro is responsible for keeping the group's website up
to date, as well as creating pages/sections requested by other members.
The Web Maestro is to work closely with the other officers to ensure
that the website has the most recent information regarding events such
as tours and design competitions.
The current website was written so as to be as simple as possible to
maintain. New sections can be created by simply copying existing code
using programs such as Notepad or Vim.
Secretary
The secretary's duties include sending out email notifications of
meetings and events, taking minutes for officers' meetings, keeping
track of ASME membership, and managing the ASME and ASME Execs email
list. Essentially, the purpose of the secretary is to facilitate
communication between the officers and the members. This position
requires some measure of organization and the ability to write in a
clear, concise, and professional manner. This does not mean there is no
room for humor or creativity in your writing, but remember, someone will
read what you wrote and need to glean information from it. In addition,
the secretary is also given charge of the coveted Official ASME
Secretarial Binder, which, in keeping with longstanding ASME tradition,
must never be used. This position would best be filled by an organized,
dedicated individual with good communication and composition skills and
provides an excellent opportunity for one to improve all of these things
as well.
