There will be a ASME Senior Section meeting held at MSOE on February 15, 2007 in the APC. The discussion topic will be "Human Powered Vehicles (HPV's)" and dinner will be served. This is a great way to connect with ASME members from different companies and build a network for the future. These meetings are also a really great experience and usually very interesting. The MSOE HPV Senior Design team will also be presenting so this would be a great way to find out about this Senior Design project. The information is listed below. Anyone interested please let me know by replying to this email so we can get you signed up.

MEETING DESCRIPTION

Human Powered Vehicles (HPV's) are aerodynamic, highly engineered vehicles that may be for use on land, in the water or the air. Some land-based HPV's have achieved speeds of over 60 mph. ASME sponsors the Human Powered Vehicle Competition in hopes of finding a design that can be used for everyday activities ranging from commuting to and from work to going to the grocery store. Senior engineering students can use this competition for their capstone project and with their efforts design and construct a fast, sleek, and safe vehicle capable of road use.

The rider (or riders) can be in upright, prone or recumbent positions. The single and tandem vehicles compete in sprint and endurance events. The practical vehicle emphasizes the usefulness of the vehicle for daily activities such as shopping, transportation or recreation. The practical vehicles must negotiate a slalom course with the challenge of carrying packages, going over bumps, potholes or other obstacles while stopping at signs and obeying the rules of the road.

The ASME/MSOE Student Chapter will present some aspects of their HPV. It entails: background information and the competitions in 2006 & 2007.
